What Is the State of Care Survey?
The MASLD/MASH State of Care Survey is a longitudinal research initiative by the Steatotic Liver Foundation that tracks how patients with metabolic liver disease experience their care over time.
By capturing real-world patient perspectives year after year, the survey provides critical insights into diagnosis gaps, treatment access, provider communication, and the evolving landscape of MASLD/MASH care.
The survey results are used to inform researchers, clinicians, and policymakers about the real-world state of liver disease care — directly from the patients who live with it every day.
Why It Matters
MASLD/MASH affects an estimated 1 in 3 adults, yet most are undiagnosed and many face significant barriers to quality care. The State of Care Survey gives patients a voice in shaping the future of liver health by documenting:
- How and when patients are diagnosed
- Access to specialists and treatment options
- Quality of communication with healthcare providers
- Changes in care experience from year to year
